Data Accuracy
What do you mean by data in this context?
Ah, right. Here we are talking about the data we aggregate / track on lit mags, contests, presses, and so on.
Do any publishers get preferential treatment or pay for more views on Chill Subs?
Ugh, originally? Brute force. Mostly Karina & Ben adding new mags whenever they had a moment for the first two years. It was a little messy. Now? We have a whole system for adding new folks and a full time data person to boot.
How often is Chill Subs data updated?
Constantly. We check listings daily, editors regularly update their own info, and our users help by reporting inaccuracies. It’s a community effort. There are over 4000 listings so we have them audited on a schedule. Submission Call audits happen daily, and full listing audits happen 25 a day.
Who’s responsible for your listings accuracy?
Well, we have around 1000 editors who manage their listings. And Muskan. Mostly Muskan. She is our data person. All she does is data. All day. Data and bears.
I found incorrect info—how can I report it?
Each listing page has a “Suggest an Edit” button. Click it, tell us what’s wrong, and we’ll get right on it.
What if an editor or publication needs urgent changes?
Use the “Suggest an Edit” button on your listing and mark it urgent—or fill out this form. We’ll handle it within 48 hours, promise.
How can I add a new magazine, press, or contest?
Sign up through our Editor Portal. Usually approved within 7 days, sometimes quicker if we’ve had coffee—or cocaine! I wonder if the rest of the team will find all of these…
How can I remove a listing that’s defunct or inactive?
Hit “Suggest an Edit” on the listing or fill out this form. We’ll give it a proper funeral.
Where do your acceptance rates and response times come from?
There are three ways. Directly from writers tracking submissions, editors self-reporting, and through a partnership with Submission Grinder.
Can magazines hide their stats?
Yep. Editors can hide acceptance rates or response times through their editor portal.
Can I trust user-generated tracker stats?
Generally, yes. While user-generated data isn’t perfect, the law of large numbers keeps things reliable. Still, take it with a grain of salt. Like a big grain—like, it wouldn’t kill you if it hit you, but you’d still want to go to the hospital to check for a concussion.
I submitted data—when will it show up on the site?
Usually within 24–48 hours. Sometimes faster, sometimes slower, depending on workload.
Who owns the content on Chill Subs listings?
Listings belong to the publications themselves; aggregated stats and site content belong to Chill Subs. Everyone keeps ownership of their original stuff.
